Rules & Requirements
• Theme:
Decorations must be Halloween-themed and appropriate for all ages.
• Family Friendly Content:
No extreme gore, violent, obscene, or otherwise offensive content is allowed.
• Safety:
Decorations must be securely installed and not pose a hazard to pedestrians or neighbors.
• Visibility:
Displays are judged based on “curb appeal” from the street only; what’s visible from the street is judged. Decorations are limited to the exterior, including windows facing the street.
• Eligibility:
Only City of South Lyon residents can participate*
Judging & Voting
• Judging Period:
Judges or will view the displays Oct 27, 2025.
• Method:
Judging will be done by:
Mayor Kennedy, Police Chief Unruh, and Fire Chief Conrad.
• Criteria:
Judges will assess displays in person, based on factors like creativity, originality, use of the Halloween theme, and overall “curb appeal”.

Email message with subject line: Halloween Home Decorating Contest
The message must include 1. name, 2. phone number and 3. home address.
Participants agree (if they win) to have their home address on a map of the 3 winners posted online for community to drive or walk by and tour all the décor throughout South Lyon. And participants agree (if they win) to have their address posted in announcements.
• Winners Announcement:
Winning home’s address will be announced via social media, email, and website. Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd Winners.
Prizes must be retrieved at City Hall within 2 weeks of announcement or prize will be awarded to runner-up homes.
• Photos:
Participants agree to have their home’s address and photos of the display posted
online for promotional use.
